Extended Path Integral Formulation for Volumetric Transport

چکیده
We propose an extension of the path integral formulation amenable to the expression of volumetric light transport with photon beam estimates. Our main contribution is a generalization of Hachisuka et al.’s extended path space formulation [HPJ12] to light transport in participating media. Our formulation supports various pointand beam-based volumetric density estimators, unifying them with path integration in the spirit of the work by Křivánek et al. [KGH∗14]. One unique and useful property of our formulation is that it recasts beam-based density estimation as Monte Carlo path vertex sampling in a higher-dimensional space, rather than beam merging in a lower-dimensional space, which enables a practical algorithm for beam estimators with 3D-blur kernels. We thus establish a complementary theoretical foundation for the development of rendering algorithms using points, beams, and paths in participating media.

Metropolis Light Transport for Participating Media
In this paper we show how Metropolis Light Transport can be extended both in the underlying theoretical framework and the algorithmic implementation to incorporate volumetric scattering. We present a generalization of the path integral formulation that handles anisotropic scattering in non-homogeneous media. Based on this framework we introduce a new mutation strategy that is specifically desig...
متن کاملBlurring of Light due to Multiple Scattering by Participating Medium: A Path Integral Approach
Volumetric light transport effects are significant for many materials like skin, smoke, clouds or water. In particular, one must consider the multiple scattering of light within the volume. Recently, we presented a path integral-based approach to this problem which identifies the most probable path light takes in the medium and approximates energy transport over all paths by only those surround...

In this paper we discuss the development and implementation of volumetric integral equations for both dielectric and magnetically permeable materials using curvilinear hexahedral elements. Both piecewise constant and higher order basis functions will be examined in the context of volumetric multilevel fast multipole method implementation. Comparisons with corresponding finite element– boundary ...

We first summarize the path integral formulation by Veach [Veach 1998]. Using the path integral formulation, light transport simulation can be expressed as: Ij = Ω fj (¯ x)dµ(¯ x), (1) where j is an index to the pixel (or measurement), fj is the measurement contribution function, µ is a measure of paths, and Ω is the set of transport paths of all lengths. We evaluate this integral using Monte C...
متن کاملA radiative transfer framework for non-exponential media
We develop a new theory of volumetric light transport for media with non-exponential free-flight distributions. Recent insights from atmospheric sciences and neutron transport demonstrate that such distributions arise in the presence of correlated scatterers, which are naturally produced by processes such as cloud condensation and fractal-pattern formation. Our theory accommodates correlations ...
